Description: Visiting Mary Shields involves a trip out to the scenic Goldstream Valley, not far from the University but far from what most people know. She heats her home with wood. Her cabin is beautiful and impeccable. The dogs are wonderful, and Mary's description of her life is an authentic glimpse of how people lived in the Alaskan frontier – and how many people here still choose to live! Enjoy a tasty treat at Hot Licks local ice cream stand on the way back to town.
